As we sat in the taxi which was taking us from the Luxor hotel to the Downtown area we didn’t know what to expect from legendary Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience except for what the brief description in the Guide Book had said.

History of Fremont Street

Fremont Street is where it all started; where the first casino was built over 100 years ago; and where the Rat Pack used to hang out.

It’s very different from the Strip. Definitely not as refined and honestly we didn’t feel that safe there as there were quite a few drunks and weirdos about.

The cost of visiting all the great attractions Las Vegas has to offer can really add to the cost of your trip. To help keep costs down we usually get a Las Vegas Power Pass

With it you’ll have access to over 20 attractions, tours, rides etc. The Power Pass is worth more than $500 in admissions and discounts.

So you might be thinking why include the Fremont Street Experience in our free attractions section?

About the Fremont Street Experience

Because the Fremont Street Experience is one of the major tourist attractions in Las Vegas and is not like anything else I’ve ever seen. Plus the area is being developed. It’s a pedestrian mall with a huge canopy of neon lights (1500 ft by 90ft) known as Glitter Gulch comprising 12 million lights making it the biggest screen in the World.

For ten minutes you can be entertained by the VistaVision sound and light shows which include American Freedom, Area 51 and Lucky Vegas. Before each show begins all the lights in Fremont Street are turned off – which is a little eerie!

If you decide to go to one of the performances just keep your wits about you and you’ll be fine. You might even love it!

If you do and you’re on a tight budget for your trip consider staying in one of the cheap hotels in Las Vegas NV’s Downtown area. They’re cheaper than the establishments on the Strip.
