Las Vegas Nevada like?
Is the Las Vegas Climate hot all the time?
The weather in Las Vegas Nevada must be hot all the time since it sits in the middle of the Mojave desert, right? Wrong!
Our first trip to the desert city was in the month of March. We landed after a 10 hour flight with suitcases full of summer clothes in a rather chilly climate. Yep that’s right, chilly!
Luckily there were plenty of shops selling warm clothes! Las Vegas weather in March typically ranges between 44°F and 69°F.
The wind dropped after a couple of days and the temperature rose to around 60°F but don’t make our mistake. Even deserts experience rain and the cold.
When’s the best weather in Las Vegas Nevada?
The weather in Vegas is most comfortable in spring and autumn so if you want to walk around a lot it’s probably best to visit during these seasons. It’s not baking hot but still pleasant enough to have a swim.
The summer months are the hottest, often over 100°F (38°C). Although it’s a dry heat it can be sweltering. My parents once visited in July when temperatures can reach 106°F. Although they enjoyed their visit it was too hot for them. They didn’t venture far because they couldn’t stand to be outside for long.
You might not be able to stand sitting by the pool for long but so many of the attractions are inside that if you choose to visit Vegas between June and August you’ll still be able to do plenty. And the temperatures usually drop at night. Does Vegas get much rain?
Las Vegas experiences approximately 250 days of sunshine a year and only 10cm (4 inches) of rain. In the times we’ve been it’s only rained once. That was in the month of February and just for a couple of hours. Occasionally Las Vegas experiences flash floods but the last were in 1999 so don’t panic.
Is it cold in the winter?
Winters are usually fairly comfortable with average temperatures of around 50°F (10°C) although every few years the city gets snow.
